Since the faculty of SFA are devoted to student success, the staff of the Center for Teaching & Learning believe the best way to help students succeed is to help SFA faculty succeed. Our staff is devoted to supporting the faculty and academic mission of SFA.


Megan Weatherly, Interim Director/Learning Experience Design (LxD) Coordinator

Megan joined the CTL team in June 2014. In her role as interim director, she is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Center. In her role as LxD Coordinator, she is responsible for assisting faculty in the design of face-to-face and online courses and facilitating the online course review process. Megan is also an adjunct faculty member in the Department of History and for 3.5 years was actively involved in the coordination of the university's strategic plan.


Prior to coming to CTL, Megan was Senior Instructional Designer for the Office of Distance and Extended Learning at Texas State University. She has also worked as a contract instructional designer for the Department of Defense, Department of Defense Education Activity, Texas A&M, UNLV, and other institutions. Megan is also a Certified Online Instructor, a WebCT Certified Trainer, and has worked in higher education for more than a decade. Her professional experience also includes four years as a writer/editor in the marketing and publishing industries in domestic and international markets.


Megan holds a B.A. in history from Stephen F. Austin State University and an M.A. in history and public history from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Andra Floyd, Brightspace by D2L Support

Andra has served as our Distance Education Student Support Specialist since October 1999 and is responsible for supporting both students and faculty in online courses and programs. Andra oversees a team of students assistants that develop technical support materials for students and answer a wide variety of questions by phone, email and walk-in visitors. Andra works closely with the course design team and the faculty support team to provide effective overall support.

Prior to coming to OIT, Andra served as an administrative assistant in the SFA Admissions office for 5 years. She currently holds certifications as a WebCT Certified Online Instructor, an Instructional Designer/Developer from Langevin Learning Services, and is certified as a Distance Education Professional from The Center for Distance Learning Research and Texas A&M University. In 1998 she was selected to receive the President's Achievement Award in recognition for outstanding achievement and excellence in service. Andra graduated in 1977 with her associate's degree in Secretarial Science from Hutchinson Community Junior College. Her career path has always included helping people as she has worked in the educational field since 1990.

Theunis Oliphant, Technology Coordinator/Media Applications & Technologies

Theunis Oliphant joined the CTL team in September 2017 as Technology Program Coordinator. His role at SFA ranges from video conference coordinator to classroom and campus technology integration consulting, as well as various other roles.

Prior to starting at CTL, Theunis was a visiting lecturer in the Management and Marketing Department of SFA's Nelson Rusche College of Business. The classes he taught dealt with hardware, software skills in Microsoft Excel, management in relation to information systems, as well as management principles.

His previous experience includes desktop video conferencing, web page development, as well as video conference and classroom technology systems and maintenance. Theunis is a Certified Online Instructor, Microsoft Office Specialist certification in Excel, and enjoys teaching, video editing, and writing.

Theunis holds a B.B.A. in International Business and M.B.A. in Management from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Heather Olson Beal, Faculty Consultant

Heather is an associate professor of the Department of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership and joined the Center for Teaching and Learning as an instructional specialist in 2013. She has a doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction from Louisiana State University, a master’s in Modern Languages from Texas A&M University, and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Brigham Young University. 


Prior to coming to SFA in 2008, Heather taught high school Spanish in College Station, Texas for six years, and undergraduate Spanish courses at LSU for three years. She teaches courses in curriculum, instruction, classroom management, content-based literacy, and diversity to graduate and undergraduate students. Heather is a Certified Online Instructor and regularly teaches online graduate courses. Her scholarship examines the issues of school choice, second language education, and the educational experiences of immigrant students. 


Heather has three children who regularly supply her with new comedic material to share with her students.

Laura Osborne, Faculty Training & Certification Coordinator

Laura joined the CTL team (known then as OIT) in September 2010. As our Faculty Training & Certification Coordinator, she provides training and support to faculty and staff using D2L and related technologies in their courses. She also coordinates a growing number of certification programs offered by CTL, facilitates the Online Instructor Certification course once per semester, and keeps our training records organized. Laura is also one of our D2L administrators as well as our campus administrator for Turnitin.

​In addition to her full time role in CTL, she continues to teach online courses (Technical Writing and Introduction to Literature) as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of English, a position she has held since Fall 2006. She has co-developed two fully online courses and taught numerous fully online sections over the years.


Laura is a Certified Online Instructor and a Certified Training Professional, and before joining the faculty at SFASU, she worked for seven years as a trainer and technical writer in the Texas A&M University Libraries, where she was part of a unit responsible for providing computer training and support to the A&M Library employees.


In addition to her professional certifications, Laura holds a Master of Arts degree in English from Texas A&M University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

Alison Reed, Learning Experience Design Specialist II

Alison joined the CTL team in January of 2019 as Learning Experience Design Specialist II. Her duties include supporting learning experiences in face-to-face and distance education courses, developing policies and procedures, and facilitating and coordinating distance education activities. 


Alison has worn many hats at SFA prior to joining CTL. Over the last decade, she has worked with SFA’s international students by assisting in admissions and immigration support in the Office of International Programs. After completing her degree at SFA, Alison fell in love with early childhood education, and began teaching at the SFA Early Childhood Lab in the Pre-K I classroom. She later joined the Human Resources Department, where she implemented online training reconciliation and outlined compliance reporting procedures as well as providing compensation and classification support.


Alison holds a B.A. in Child and Family Development with a minor in Early Childhood Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work degree at Stephen F. Austin State University.

DeAnna Schlebach, Learning Experience Design Specialist I

DeAnna joined the CTL team in June of 2019 as Learning Experience Design Specialist I.  Her duties include supporting learning experiences in face-to-face and distance education courses as well as designing, implementing, and assessing marketing plans in relation to enrollment in online programs. Prior to coming to CTL, DeAnna was a Digital Learning Specialist for Nacogdoches ISD.  


DeAnna holds a B.S. in Education, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Sam Houston State University, and an M.Ed. in Education Psychology for Education Technology from Texas A&M University.

Joan Taylor, Administrative Assistant


Joan Taylor joined the CTL staff in January 2012. Joan is a graduate of SFA and has previously worked as the secretary for the SFA Men's Basketball program.
