Most of the workshops offered by CTL are listed in SFA’s campus-wide workshop registration system, known as myTraining. To access myTraining, log into mySFA, choose the Employee tab, then choose the myTraining link, and peruse the available offerings.

These workshops are suggested for all faculty using Brightspace. Workshops #1-#4 (or the 2-part D2L Express workshops) are a prerequisite for all faculty seeking Online Instructor Certification.
Brightspace #1: Content and Communication Tools (2 hours)
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to add content to your Brightspace course materials, including how to edit and organize your content. You’ll also learn the basics of the essential communication tools in Brightspace, including sending email, posting news, and using the Classlist tool.
Brightspace #2: Grades Tool (2 hours)
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to set up and organize your grade book in Brightspace, enter grades, and customize your grade book settings. You will also learn how to manage the way in which your final grades are calculated, and how to release final grades to students.
Brightspace #3: Discussions, Dropbox, and Groups Tools (2 hours)
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn to create, edit, organize, and grade discussions and assignments (in Brightspace, the assignments tool is called the Dropbox). This workshop will also cover how to create and manage groups of students and how to create and assign group-specific activities.
Brightspace #4: Quizzes Tool (2 hours)
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn to create and grade quizzes in Brightspace, as well as how to create a variety of types of quiz questions.
Brightspace Express Workshops (2 parts for a total of 6 hours)
This express workshop covers the essentials of Brightspace workshops #1-4 in a more streamlined, 2 part format. The Express Part 1 covers the same skills as Brightspace #1 and #2, and the Express Part 2 covers the same skills as Brightspace #3 and #4. Completion of the Brightpsace Express Training is equivalent to completing workshops #1-4, and therefore fulfills the prerequisites for the Online Instructor Certification course.
Brightspace #5: Rubrics Tool (1.5 hours)
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to create rubrics in Brightspace, how to attach them to discussions and assignments, and how to use them to evaluate student work.
Brightspace #6: Turnitin, Grademark, and E-Rater in D2L (1.5 hours)
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to use Turnitin in the Brightspace Dropbox tool in order to generate originality reports on student submissions. You’ll also learn how to grade interactively online using Grademark (a feature of Turnitin), and how to use E-Rater to automatically mark student papers for basics such as grammar and spelling.
Brightspace #7: Gradebook - Beyond the Basics
Learn to do more than just put numeric grades in the Brightspace gradebook. In this session, you'll learn how to include multimedia feedback in the gradebook, how to make and use text items, how to make your own grade schemes for use in Selectbox items, how to easily bulk edit items in the gradebook, and more.
Other Technology Workshops
Introduction to Zoom (1 hour)
Learn to use Zoom both inside and outside of Brightspace to video conference with students, as well as learn to use Zoom as an instructional video creation tool. Administrators will also find Zoom useful for conducting meetings while reducing travel costs and saving time.
